An interesting, comprehensive account of the major dive bombing actions of World War 2, together with a history of the development of dive bombing. It pays particular attention to the controversy within the Royal Air Force between those who advocated level bombing and those, especially in the Fleet Air Arm, who wanted a bomber capable of precision bombing. In the event, level bombers rarely hit, let along sank, ships. They proved to be great city destroyers, but poor at hitting small targets and very poor at hitting small, moving targets. The diagrams are excellent, and one could almost use it as a text for how dive bombing should be done. A very good reference for a much neglected subject.
