This remarkable company adopted its present corporate title in September 1977 when the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. which had been organized in June 1932, became the Lockheed Corporation. It carries forward the proud name of Lockheed, inherited from the proper phonetic rendering of the family name of its founders-the Loughead brothers. who had built their first aircraft in 1913.
