What’s New in AutoCAD Mechanical 2025 Toolset
Standard Revision Updates Surface Texture Symbols (What’s New in 2025)
The surface texture symbol now supports the latest revisions of ISO (ISO 21920-1:2021(E)) and ANSI/ASME (ASME Y14.36 – 2018) standards.
By supporting the new ISO 21920-1:2021(E) and ANSI/ASME Y14.36 – 2018 standards, you can annotate documents created in AutoCAD Mechanical using the latest revision of surface texture symbols to communicate precise information about surface finishes.
Note: AutoCAD Mechanical toolset continues to support all legacy revisions and allows documents created in previous releases to be opened, edited, and saved without updating the surface texture standard. Saving the new revision of the surface texture symbols to an older file format converts the surface texture symbol to a block.
Options Dialog Box
In AutoCAD Mechanical 2025 toolset, the default standard for a new drawing is set to the latest ISO or ANSI/ASME standard revision. However, when you open a legacy drawing, the default standard changes to the corresponding old standard revision.
You can change the standard revision in the Options dialog
Surface Texture Settings Dialog Box
The Surface Texture Settings dialog box displays the latest ISO and ANSI/ASME revisions for surface texture symbols. The corresponding symbol type and preset list are automatically updated to reflect the most recent revision.
Surface Texture Dialog Box
The Surface Texture ISO dialog box includes the latest surface texture revision, providing you with the most up-to-date notation and requirements. This dialog box also supports multi-row functionality which allows you to organize and present surface texture specifications across multiple rows.
The Surface Texture ANSI/ASME dialog box provides more capabilities. In addition to multi-row support, this dialog box provides you options to define multiple reference lines within the symbol.
Properties Palette
You can view and modify all surface texture symbol properties using the Properties palette.

– Hexagon Nut: DIN EN 14399-4: 2015-04 (Regular Thread)
– Washer: DIN EN 14399-6: 2015-04
Activity Insights (What’s New in 2025)
In AutoCAD Mechanical 2025, the Activity Insights now logs more activities and provides more detailed information about drafting standards and symbol revisions.
Drafting Standard Changed Event
The "Drafting standard changed" event is logged whenever there are modifications to the drafting standard in AutoCAD Mechanical. This event is triggered when you make changes in the Options dialog box (Standard TabStandards dropdown list), or by using the AMSETUPDWG command.
Symbol Revision Changed Event
The "Symbol revision changed" event is created whenever there are modifications to the symbol revision in AutoCAD Mechanical. This event is triggered when you make changes in the Options dialog box (Standards tabStandard elements).
Note:
– An event is created each time a standard or revision is changed.
– If you cancel the operation without committing the standard or revision changes, the event is not created.
Quality improvements
Mechanical Standards:Mechanical standards are now preserved when saving a drawing to a previous release format.
Viewports:Dimensions for chamfer now respect scaling when the viewport is created using the -VPORTS command.
Hole:Optimized preview experience for creating block with hole feature.
Hole Chart
– Performing an undo in the middle of the AMOFFSET command no longer affects object snap settings.
– The hole chart feature now has the capability to display the degree symbol for polar coordinates.
Centerhole:The AMCENCRHOLE command now provides more accurate hole placement.
Structure:The side view of a shaft component is now generated accurately in mechanical structure.
Construction Line:Consistent precision is now ensured with construction line commands, eliminating occasional object omissions when drawing in a zoomed-out view.
AdMigrator:Enhanced accuracy when migrating from a previous version of AutoCAD Mechanical .
Taper Symbol:The Insert Symbol textbox now has the capability to seamlessly parse GDT font.
MarkupAssist:Enhanced stability when switching modes from TRACEFRONT to TRACEBACK.
Content:Enhanced precision in evaluation of nested parts and features like keyways.
Additional enhancements
2D Graphics:
– Font display improvements.
– The Graphics Performance dialog box includes a new "Diagnosis" tab specifically designed to diagnose common graphics card issues.
3D Graphics:The Wireframe visual style has been added to the cross platform 3D graphics system. See the Fast shaded mode option in the Graphics Performance dialog box for more information.
File Open Performance:Improvements have been made to reduce the amount of time it takes to open 2D drawing files.
New and Changed File Formats:The ACTM and DXE file formats have been replaced by the new ACTMX and DXEX file formats.
– ACTM files must be migrated to the ACTMX file format before they can be played back. New action macros recorded are stored in the ACTMX file format and are not compatible with AutoCAD 2024 and earlier releases.
– DXE files can continue to be used to extract data from a drawing, but changes can’t be saved back these files. Changes can only be saved to the new DXEX file format which is not compatible with AutoCAD 2024 and earlier releases.
Autodesk AutoCADis computer-aided design software that allows you to efficiently create and document 2D and 3D designs. Industry-specific Autodesk tools, such as architecture, plant 3D, map 3D, MEP, electrical, mechanical and grid design, make Autodesk AutoCAD the number one software for architects, engineers and construction professionals.
Autodesk AutoCAD 2025enhances your 2D and 3D design experience with features that unlock insights and automations with the help of Autodesk AI, tailors to discipline-specific workflows, and stay connected with one experience on desktop, web, and mobile-to capture, share, and review ideas on the go.
TheMechanical toolset, included as part of the AutoCAD including specialized toolsets offering, can help save many hours of design and rework by automating many common tasks. With the Mechanical toolset, you can: Access the library of standards-based parts, tools, and custom content; customize properties of object types and create them on custom layers; automate tasks such as creating bills of materials (BOMs).
